Crucell’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

Crucell is deeply committed to being a good corporate citizen: a company that creates significant value for society.

Our core business is a powerful expression of this commitment. By directing our proven talent for innovation towards the fight against infectious diseases, we aim to generate sustainable value for all our stakeholders. An entrepreneurial mind-set and social responsibility go hand-in-hand at Crucell.

In line with Crucell’s growing maturity as an organization, we are developing our approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR). In 2009 we made the transition from the ambition to focus more on CSR performance and transparency, to a strategy for how to do this. We also created the basic framework necessary for embedding a CSR program in the organization.

A global CSR policy, focusing on the four themes of Performance, People, Planet and Philanthropy, has been outlined. Key performance indicators, ambitions and targets have been defined for each category, and we are building a centralized data management infrastructure. Top-level ownership of the CSR program will support the continuous development of this approach in the years ahead.

For more information on Crucell’s approach to social responsibility and recent CSR initiatives, see our 2009 Annual Report or send an email to csr@crucell.com.

Good performance on CSR benchmarks:

  • Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI): Crucell achieved DJSI listing on September 3, 2009, in recognition of the significant steps taken to define and develop the company’s commitment to sustainability issues.
  • Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP): Crucell participated in the CDP in 2009. This project is a global, investor-driven initiative encouraging multinational corporations to report on their environmental impact.
  • Transparency Benchmark, Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs: Crucell’s overall score for transparent CSR reporting rose 17 points on this 100-point scale in 2009 compared to 2008. This placed Crucell in the top three companies in terms of rapid progress.
  • Global Reporting Initiative (GRI): Crucell’s ambition is to continuously improve our level of GRI compliance, from self-declared C level in 2009 to A level in 2015. The systematic approach to CSR introduced in 2009 lays the foundation for meeting this challenge.
