The Hansenula polymorpha platform has been widely used in the development of healthcare products. Registered products derived from this yeast expression system include food and feed additives, innovative therapeutics such as interferon alpha-2 , and Crucell’s recombinant vaccine Hepavax-Gene®. Crucell has a GMP production facility for the manufacture of Hepavax-Gene®, which is approved, marketed and used in many countries for prevention of hepatitis B.
